Lost Your Pants? The Impatient Writer’s Guide to Plotting a Story

Do you write by the seat of your pants?

Do you want to write faster?

This workshop teaches a minimalist approach to story development to accommodate “pantsers” (those who write by the seat of their pants) while still establishing the big picture for the plot and character arc. By the end of this class, students will have enough direction to make “Fast Drafting” techniques work for them. Students will receive several tools (worksheets and beat sheets) developed especially for pantsers.

Previous students have said:

“I’ve read books on craft. Structure, plotting, and all that jazz. So I went into the Lost Your Pants? class already knowing about plot and structure. However, looking back on it now, I feel as though what I knew from reading those books was just the tip of the iceberg, and I’m hungry to learn more! Jami Gold is not only the master of structure and plotting spreadsheets, she’s also the master at taking all those books on craft and rolling them into a single, easy, cohesive plan. With her ability to thoroughly understand plot and character arcs, she has created a special offering for panters and their muses.” — Melinda Collins

“I knew when I read the description it would be a good course for me, a die-hard pantser who sometimes gets stuck. What I didn’t know was just how much the class would exceed my expectations. The hand-outs themselves could stand alone as the course textbook, they are that good. As well, the Beat Sheet she created will be indispensable for working on any and all of my future stories. I’ve taken a couple of webinars from Writer’s Digest previously, and this class compares favorably with them. In fact, I’d say that this one is my favorite of all the web-classes I’ve taken. Jami is to be commended for doing a stellar job!” — Teresa Robeson

WordPress Classes for Beginners

  • Those who want a free website and blog (but with limited customization options) can learn everything they need to know to get started with my “Develop a Free Author Website in 60 Minutes (or Less!)” workshop.
  • Those ready to invest in a website and blog they’ll own (and find more customizable) can learn everything they need to get started with my “A Newbie’s Guide to Building a Self-Hosted Blog or Website” workshop.

Check out this post for tips on how to decide which path to take if you’re undecided. Register for only one of these classes.

Develop a Free Author Website in 60 Minutes (or Less!)

Need a website (or blog) but don’t know where to start? Overwhelmed by having to learn yet another new thing? Never fear—all you need is one hour to learn everything about creating a website using WordPress and other free Internet resources. We’ll cover the following steps:

  • Deciding on website goals,
  • Organizing information for a set of pages: about me, books, contact, etc.,
  • Creating a Word Press account,
  • Choosing a Word Press theme and style,
  • Creating static Word Press pages, and
  • Creating and populating a blog page.

This class is for beginners, and is intended for students with no knowledge of WordPress (or of websites and blogging at all!). Students will receive a handout and access to a private webpage with additional tips and instruction. At the end of this class, students will have an overview of WordPress, know how to set up a basic website, and even know how to add a blog.

If you’d rather pay for a self-hosted website or blog, sign up instead for “A Newbie’s Guide to Building a Self-Hosted Blog or Website.”
