The Drakish language builds on aspects of many Eastern European languages, such as Albanian, Croatian, Czech, Romanian, etc. All of the details, from Elaina’s apartment and Chicago transit options to the Hungary setting and Bahamas location, were based on real facts as well.
The Pinterest board above contains images of the boats and cottage of the private island. That setting was based on a 33-acre private island in the Bahamas available for sale (for $7 million!) at the time Jami was writing the story. The real estate page is no longer available, but luckily, she saved some pictures to share…
